Whistler Brewing and Cops For Cancer

This Saturday, Whistler Brewing, Hillside Liquor Store and Cops for Cancer partner up for a charity BBQ!

Hot dogs and Whistler Glacier water will be available, with all proceeds going to the Cops for Cancer Foundation.

A Whistler Brewing tasting will also occur inside at Hillside Liquor Store. The tasting will be of the Honey Lager, Hefeweizen and the Export Lager. Can't decide between those? Whistler Brewing has a summer mixed pack!

Whistler Brewing will also donate $1 from the sale of every six-pack to the Cops for Cancer fund.

More Beer, less Money!

Molson Canadian- the classic taste of summer in Canada, right? Lazy days drifting down the Cowichan River, sitting lakeside at Shawnigan, taking in the sun at Gonzales Beach, walking 18 holes at Cedar Hill, or backyard BBQs- for all of those events, Canadian has been part of it.

Molson Canadian wants to make sure they are part of your Friday night at Hillside Liquor Store.

From 4-8 pm, there will be a Canadian tasting and Molson Canadian Megacan promotion.

Here's the deal- MORE BEER, LESS MONEY!

For a limited time, Molson Canadian is offering a 12 pack of mega cans- that's 473 ml- on sale for $22.95! That's a savings of $2 per case, as the regular price is $24.95.

But it gets better:

12 of the 473 ml cans is equivalent to 16 regular sized beer (355 ml).

A 15 pack of 355 ml is $27.95, so the 12 pack of Mega cans is pretty much the best deal ever.

16 beer for the price of 12!!!!

Not to mention the chance of winning the MegaKeg promotion- special PIN numbers are included in each case. Go Online, and enter the number for your chance to win a couple of tickets to the ultimate summer party- or other cool prizes.

New Products in-store!

At long last, Hillside Liquor Store has made some room for some new wines!

By popular request, the Cono Sur Gewurztraminer from Chile has arrived. Anthony Gismondi has this to say:

Much like last year the ’07 made with fruit from cold Bio Bio opens with big floral orange peel notes with bits of honey and spice. The flavours are fruit forward with ginger, orange, nectarine and grapefruit all with a splash of minerality. Perfect with Indian or Thai food. 88/100 points.

Also arrived in BC-

St. Hubertus '08 Frizzante Rose- a patio and sunny day favourite, this Frizzante Rose is made from Gamay and Pinot Noir, with a touch of Champagne yeast for added sparkle. It shows notes of strawberry, cherry and cream with some green apple and a nice dry finish. Refreshing!

St. Hubertus '08 Riesling- notes of green apple, lime and a slight honeyed note abound in this zesty zingy Riesling. Pair with salads, spicy food, grilled halibut, sushi, or lighter pork or chicken dishes.

Fairview Cellars- Oliver, BC

Madcap Blend- This one is 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lush rich Merlot character with tons of plum, cherry, red currant and blackberry flavours are balanced by tobacco and earth with a long finish. Pair with grilled lamb, steak, roast beef, hard cheeses...good friends and conversation. Drink this one copiously!

Two Hoots- named for the Great Horned Owls that return to Bill Eggert's property each year to mate, this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Lighter bodied than expected, this one shows lots of ripe berries with mocha, coffee, tobacco and pepper notes. Drinks beautifully with pizza, Roast Beef, chicken, venison

Little Straw-Kelowna, BC

This is a small, family-run winery out of Kelowna, at the base of Mt Boucherie. The vines have been planted for over 40 years, and the winery officially opened in 1996.

Tapesty blend- their signature white, this is aromatic, juicy and fun to drink. Lots of rose petal, orange blossom, tropical fruits with a nice acidity. Pair with spicy foods, or a patio and a bunch of girlfriends.

Riesling- an awesome example of how good BC Rieslings can be. A slight honeyed note and lots of apple, pear and lime meld seamlessly into this lower-alcohol (9%) wine. Pair this with anything you can think of- it's extremely versatile, from sausages to Chinese, to cheeses and other picnic foods or even some desserts!

Saturday Aug 8 BBQ and Whistler Tasting

Want to figure out how to combine altruism, beer and BBQ?

Hillside Liquor Store has the perfect solution: A BBQ for Cops For Cancer, sponsored by Whistler Brewing, and a Whistler Brewing beer tasting. Whistler Brewing is also donating $1 from the sale of every 6 pack to the Cops for Cancer fund, so Saturday August 8 is your chance to drink beer and eat dogs, and feel virtuous about doing both.

Hot dogs will be thrown on the grill out front at Hillside Liquor Store in the mid-afternoon, and the beer tasting will happen inside around the same time.

What's the perfect beer pairing for Hot Dogs?

Whistler's Summer Mountain Mixer 12 pack has 4 different beer: Export Lager, Honey Lager, Weissbier and Pale Ale. This way, you can try all four and see what you think is the perfect match for Hot Dogs and condiments.

Tree Brewing Tasting

Friday August 7th brings another Tree Brewing tasting to Hillside Liquor Store from 4-8 pm.

Tree Brewing is from Kelowna, and makes a variety of beer from an ultra-hoppy IPA called, appropriately, "Hophead" to a smooth and delicious Amber ale "Thirsty Beaver" to a balanced but bitter Pale Ale "Cutthroat" to their Kelowna Pilsner, crisp and clean with a bit of sweetness., or the special summer release Hefeweizen, Tree's take of a classic wheat beer.

Hard to make a decision? Tree has a special mixed bottle pack with 8 beer: Kelowna Pilsner, Cutthroat Pale Ale, Hefeweizen and Thirsty Beaver Amber ale.

Also available is 6 packs of Thirsty Beaver, Cutthroat, Hophead and Hefeweizen.

Or, come on in to Hillside Liquor Store and try them for yourself.

Today's tasting is the Thirsty Beaver Amber Ale, Hefeweizen and Cutthroat Pale Ale.
