Today's winter tasting will be the Little Penguin wines from Australia. The tasting will run from 4-8 pm, and will feature the Chardonnay, Merlot and Shiraz. The Little Penguin series of wines are from South Eastern Australia with just a touch of residual sugar and a nice clean finish- easy to drink and easy to pair with food.
The Chardonnay is unoaked, with a nose and palate full of tropical fruits with hints of melon and pineapple. This Chardonnay pairs well with seafood, poultry and soft cheeses, but is also lovely as a sipping wine.
The Merlot is full of ripe strawberry and juicy blueberry with notes of black fruit and spice. A lush, rich wine with a soft supple palate and a long finish. This wine pairs well with hard cheeses, bbq or even spicy Asian foods.
The Shiraz is a big, bold Shiraz with a nose and palate full of strawberry, mocha, dark chocolate and a bit of spice, and an extremely long finish. This wine pairs well with hard cheeses, red meats, red meats, blackened fish or spicy foods.
All the Little Penguin wines are available in the standard 750 ml size, and are well priced at $12.99 + deposit.
The Little Penguin Chardonnay and Shiraz are also available in the 3l wine cask size, perfect for large gatherings! That's the equivalent of 4 bottles, but in a handy space-saving design. The wine casks also keep for at least 6 weeks once opened, as there is no chance for air to enter.
